Search reset glitch?

Using Jamroom

I tried Andrew Davis, then Davis, then Andrew. See attached screen shots. The glitch happened again this evening.

1. Searched for full name.
2. Searched for Davis after reset (see 11.2 kb file). Screenshot show setup for the search.
3. Observed full name results after pressing the search button at step 2. See 19.5 kb file.
4. Searched for Andrew after reset (see 46.kB file). This gave results only for Andrew.
It is clearly a caching problem. Perhaps it is specific to my home computer for some reason.

By the way, there is no member with this name, so an exact search result would give zero profiles. As it is set up, the search system looks for similar names so pulls up many different profiles of people with names that are Andrew something or something Davis, etc.

Let me know if I should shift this to a personal ticket.

Search reset glitch?

Using Jamroom

I have a search box that allows me (and any site visitor) to search across all member profiles in my network.

Tonight I tried search for a person with two names, but could not find him (he may not be a member). To broaden the search I pushed the reset button next to the search box, and entered just one name.

Immediately the two name search repeated itself. Aha! I need to reset caches in ACP!

So I reset caches, and the single-name search worked.

Wonderful but not wonderful: the search function is there for visitors and network members who cannot reset the site caches, and should not have to.

Have I discovered a glitch?

This would be a major issue if it is a glitch; more like a spanner in the works.

I am I not understanding something? All advice welcome.

Expired security certificate... how can I update this when access to the site is blocked?

Installation and Configuration

@douglas

Looks all good now. Thanks very much. I checked and found no information about security certificates in the JR FAQ or documentation, but did find a note in the outline of JR hosting benefits: "Free SSL certificates for Jamroom sites on your server(s)." This is what I have, so I suppose the take home message for me (and others with JR hosting) is to go first to the JR support ticket system to get this fixed (as you suggested above), if the issue arises again.

Cheers

Expired security certificate... how can I update this when access to the site is blocked?

Installation and Configuration

Tonight I found myself shut out from my site. Since I cannot access the site, how can I update the security certificate?

Browsers report as follows.

1. Firefox:

Did Not Connect: Potential Security Issue

Firefox detected an issue and did not continue to researchcooperative.org. The website is either misconfigured or your computer clock is set to the wrong time.

It’s likely the website’s certificate is expired, which prevents Firefox from connecting securely.

What can you do about it?

my-site.org has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which means that Firefox can only connect to it securely. You can’t add an exception to visit this site.

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it. You can notify the website’s administrator about the problem.

2. Compass:

This connection is not secure. The website may be impersonating my-site.org to steal your personal or financial information. You should go back to the previous page....

Safari warns you when you have an expired certificate. This website's certificate expired 3 days ago. This may happen if your website is misconfigured, an attacker has compromised your connection, or your system clock is incorrect.

Vimeo module is active but there is no video upload button

Using Jamroom

Thanks.

I have now enabled Vimeo for the quota. And have reset caches.

However, the video (see link below) does not upload from the Vimeo site (where it is now active and designated as free to share and download). Nor does iframe ebedding code provided by Vimeo work on my site.

For the profile, I can see the "Pending" notice, but cannot see how to make this not pending. Is this a task for the Admin or for the Profile owner?

Vimeo module is active but there is no video upload button

Using Jamroom

As a coda to this, when we go into a Group discussion and want to upload media, we get the option to "embed local media".

What does "local" refer to in this context? Local within the group, or local within the entire site?

If I embed a video using the video module, how does this differ from using the upload media tools in a group discussion? Or how does one relate to the other?

Vimeo module is active but there is no video upload button

Using Jamroom

Other modules (for Files, Photos, etc.) provide upload buttons when activated, but my Vimeo module does not appear to have an upload button. See attached image.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

Facebook API advice gives me the heebie-jeebies

More joyful messages from Facebook (20th October 2020):

Changes to token requirements will break your applications function

Action required: You need to generate a client or app token to access user pictures starting October 23, 2020 @ 10AM PDT

(Following the links provided led me deeper into a jungle where I suspect snakes and tigers are lurking. Perhaps I should turn off social sign in and let all my Facebook members fade into ghostly ciphers). Can I ask for help with this?

How to make purchases payout directly to users PayPal?

Using Jamroom

If the transactions are all recorded, and Admin has access to the information, or an anonymized summary, perhaps the profile owner could be billed monthly or annually according to the total amount, rather than each time.

Setting a minimum threshold for billing for transactions might encourage profile owners to use the system.

Does Paypal itself allow something like this, as an alternative to taking percentages on every transaction?

(Just trying to think of alternatives here...)
