Does the User Re-authenticate option interfere with Forgot login process?

Using Jamroom

Best wishes for 2021!

We haven't solved 2020, but we can move on :-)

Does the User Re-authenticate option interfere with Forgot login process?

Using Jamroom

Hmmm.

To login, a user must know their password, so they are not likely to have forgotten it. But it could happen that a computer is left on unattended, and stays logged in, and then someone without authority tries to change the password. Is this the scenario that Re-authenticate is designed to prevent? Or even worse situations when a computer has been hacked, and an attempt is made remotely to change a password?

In any case, it seems you are saying that activating Re-authenicate does not prevent logged out users from getting back in if they use the Forgot Password form. So that's good to know.

Thanks...

Does the User Re-authenticate option interfere with Forgot login process?

Using Jamroom

In ACP>Users>Glob config>Account>Re-authenticate, the help note says:

"If this option is checked, when a user attempts to change their email address or password they will have to enter their existing password to continue. Default: on"

So what happens if a user has to change a password that was forgotten?

Will having the Re-authenticate option on make it impossible for someone to use just his/her email (in the Forgot login page) to receive a link for updating their password?

Activiy Log Watcher - seeking advice for how to use this

Using Jamroom

A footnote to the above: i.e. we can monitor for positive activities, not just negative.

Activiy Log Watcher - seeking advice for how to use this

Using Jamroom

Thanks. All good.

I wonder if there are any jr network owners/developers who have found particular activities that all or many network owners should be monitoring?

Where is the template or form for the "Account Validation" message sent to new signups?

Using Jamroom

Thanks. I'm planning now to keep a list or index of key templates that need to be updated from time to time.

Where is the template or form for the "Account Validation" message sent to new signups?

Using Jamroom

I would like to edit the account validation message that is sent to users with a link for account activation. Where can I find the template of form for editing this?

(I did not find an entry in Documentation on "account validation")

Activiy Log Watcher - seeking advice for how to use this

Using Jamroom

The Activity Log Watcher module looks like something that might be very useful, but I do not know what kinds of activity I should give most attention to.

How can we create a filter to catch signs of imminent trouble, or trouble that has started. What are the worst things that might happen?

When I go from the module to the Documentation link, there is "page not found" message. My suggestion for Documentation is to provide some examples of activity filter strings that are likely to be commonly useful, or useful for catching rare but big problems as early as possible.

For example, it is annoying for users of a network to find a "Page not found" message. Is that an event that shows up in activity logs, and is it possible to watch for this in order to clean out links to non-existing pages, or to create the pages that users are looking for?

Search reset glitch?

Using Jamroom

OK. I should try other computers and internet connections. It may take some time as I am working from home on just one computer recently. Thanks.

Search reset glitch?

Using Jamroom

I understand all that. What bothers me is that after a non-exact search for Andrew Davis, and after resetting for a new search, and after entering just Andrew, and the confirming visually that just Andrew is in the search box, the system gives me the results for Andrew Davis again.

What I want is for the search not to be hindered by a need for cache resetting, which is something that only Admin can do, and not my members when they try to use the search function.

For me the issue is highly repeatable. I log out, log in again, and it happens again. I log out, and search as a visitor, and it happens again. It happens on the Firefox browser. And it happens on the Compass Browser.

Somehow, it seems that the browsers are controlling what happens in the website search box. So this is something that other people are likely to experience when using the search system.
