Is it possible to use the Mailgun list of "Bounces and Failures" to move unused accounts offline, or out?

Using Jamroom

With Kickbox testing at 20 mails per day, I can set up a "Fail action" that moves accounts into an offline quota, and from there I can eventually delete them (one by one).

Meanwhile, Mailgun has produced a comprehensive list of member email "Bounces and Failures", but no "Fail action" setting is apparent to me in the ACP.

I have about 3000 accounts that have invalid email addresses, according to Mailgun. Most have not yet been picked up by Kickbox.

Ideally, the Bounces and Failures list would be bundled together with the "Last login" information from each account, in one table, alongside a delete button or selection box that can then be used to carry out actions such as "Transfer selected accounts to X quota" or "Delete selected accounts".

That would allow for convenient removal of inactive accounts that are still visible when visitors to the site search the member profiles.

How to change the default settings for Notifications?

Using Jamroom

When I look at the notifications that members can turn on or off, there are examples for which I believe the current default setting is best, and examples for which most members might prefer not to be notified.

Most members, being passive, do not bother to touch their settings - and will judge the site not on how it might work if they are actively engaged, and adjust their own (unfamiliar) settings, but how it works while they do nothing.

So I am trying to look for ways avoid members receiving the least necessary notifications, while receiving the notifications I think are most necessary.

But the system is OK as it is. I would not rate this an urgent matter. The question occurred to me, and I did not find any documentation to answer it.

Thanks

How to change the default settings for Notifications?

Using Jamroom

Thanks - I logged in with a member account, and can confirm that by default, there are no options shown for a notification about new members joining, for ordinary members. In my case, that is fine. Other sites might want such an option though.

Here is another example:

GuestBook Entry -You can be notified when a new GuestBook entry is created in your GuestBook. Do Not Notify / Send Email/ Send Private Note

The options for this kind of notification are shown when the GuestBook module is enabled for a Quota, and not when it is not. And the default setting for this "Send Email".

So Admin can control whether all or zero options are shown for this, by activating or de-activating the module, but cannot (easily) control the specific default setting if the module is active.

So we have some control of default notifications at the level of module implementation, but not at the level of notification setting, and not if the notification is not related to a stand-alone module.

Is there something obvious here that I am not seeing? Could this all be clarified in Documentation, even if "Notifications" are not controlled through a stand-alone module?

How to change the default settings for Notifications?

Using Jamroom

Is it possible for Admin to change the default settings for Notifications, for all members?

I do not want all members to be notified - by default - when new members join the network - this may be simply annoying for them.

I could not find any jr Documentation about the Notifications set up.

For sharing with OneAll Social, how to link another network account to a JR network account?

Using Jamroom

Thanks... that looks simple, but I am not seeing any option related to Twitter in the Notifications page at my JR site. Did you mean "Networks" in the above sequence?

I do find Twitter listed in the Networks panel, and tried to activate that for sharing, but when I signed in as a member with a Twitter account, and used my blog to post a message, the message was not shared with Twitter for the following reason (provided in an automatic message from Twitter):

twitter 14/07/18 11:17:09PM The provider did not accept the message: the application is set to read-only and may not be used to publish content.

So when Admin sets up OneAll Social Signup/Signin for a network, using the "Read only" setting for the Twitter Api, this means that members cannot share content with their Twitter account.

Until I change the Twitter Api, I should deactivate Twitter in the "Sharing networks" panel under "Global config" in the OneAll module.

For sharing with OneAll Social, how to link another network account to a JR network account?

Using Jamroom

I have OneAll social installed and new members seem to have no trouble signing up with it.

To allow members to share their posts on the JR based network with other networks, I went to the OneAll Social quota config panel, then clicked "Enable networks" for the signup quota, and also for Admin quota so I can see how it works with my own profile.

When I went to the "Networks" tab in my profile "Account settings" page, I found the following help note:

"Select the external social networks you would like to link to your account - note that you must already have an account on the linked social network, and have linked it to your account in order to link your activity stream."

I find the statement barely understandable (what is being linked to what and how?). I think it may mean the following:

"Select an external social network you would like to link your account to.
Note that you must already have an account on the social network you are linking to, and that account should be linked to your account here first, in order to send your activity stream from here to there."

If this interpretation is correct, is it self-evident on other networks how to link them to a personal account in a JR based network?

Will other networks ask us to link our account on JR to the other network first, creating a perfect loop of impossibility?

What does it mean exactly, to "have the linked social network linked to your account"?

I have never done such a thing before. How can other networks be linked to a personal account on a JR-based network?

This will be a new challenge for every member joining a JR-based network and hoping to share to their profiles on other networks. How will they know what to do at the other networks?

Item list display options - can comments be truncated with a "read more..." at end?

Using Jamroom

I am using the amazing item list display widget in Site Builder to display comments on the home page of my site.

My aim is to highlight where members are being active in this way throughout the network.

I have chosen to show just the three most recent comments, but as one commenter has posted a very long announcement, the top page is now dominated by the one comment.

Is there are an easy way to truncate comments with a "read more" at the end, when the comments are being displayed by an item list widget in Site Builder?

ps
In most cases, I expect that the original comment should be displayed in full, where it is shown in a discussion thread, for example. Nevertheless, there might also be a benefit in having a truncate/fead-more option for comments in their original locations.

Signature of a hacking attempt?

Using Jamroom

Today I noticed a user visiting the following page on my site:

/.git/HEAD

In fact, no such page exists, as far as I can tell. So I checked the IP address and found that it comes from a site called "worldhostingfarm.com" based in Cork, UK.

Is this the signature of a hacking attempt, or is it something that occurs when we are updating modules from JR? (GIT has something to do with version control, and I did update some modules today).

Using OneAll Social: what does the digit 1 mean in the string "user_jrOneAll: 1" ?

Using Jamroom

Thanks.

The Social Connections panel is brilliant.

It shows me where the new members are coming from (Google, LinkedIn etc), and allows me to click directly through to the public profile page of the newly joined member on their home network. So I don't need to worry about them not needing to answer signup questions to join our network.

In my case, in a small initial sample of new members, the social connections are coming from

LinkedIn:Google:Facebook:Yahoo

in the ratio of 7:4:1:0

Using OneAll Social: what does the digit 1 mean in the string "user_jrOneAll: 1" ?

Using Jamroom

I recently set up OneAll Social signup and login, and have been happy to see that some new members are actually using this to signup at our network.

I can see this by viewing user account "keys" (why are they called "keys" rather than say "details"?) here:

https://yoursite/user/browser//vk=true

To find the accounts that have used OneAll Social, I can do a search the user browser results page that shows user account details (keys)... using the term:

user_jrOneAll:

The users that have used OneAll social all show the following result (the digit 1 after the template name (search term):

user_jrOneAll: 1

What does the digit 1 mean in the string "user_jrOneAll: 1" ?

Can other digits be shown in principle, and if so, what would they mean?

I set up my system for signup using Google, LinkedIn, Yahoo, and Facebook.

Does the digit 1 refer to one of these services?

How can I know which service users have used to signup or login?
