Jamroom Support - who should fix my family sedan?

Off Topic

How far can non-coding JR admins push the patience of JR Support before we are told to pay a freelance JR developer to help build our site?

Maybe there is no need to ask. Most likely I'll be told when the time comes.

Meanwhile, there don't seem to be that many JR freelance developers in the JR net fold, and there seem to be a lot of unattended job requests pending.

See: https://www.jamroom.net/job/open

Maybe there needs to be a JR certification scheme for JR developers that allows novice site owners to target jobs to developers with requisite skills at prices suitable to each job at hand.

This might also make it easier for new developers to take the plunge and set up shop as novice or professional JR developers.

i.e. I don't want to take my family sedan tyre-change to a specialist for Ferrari engine customisations.

The current set of Freelance developers at JR Net don't say much about themselves. Those profile forms aren't being used to a great extent it seems. Which doesn't suprise me as it requires some fiddling to set them up as profiles for public view :-(

What JR development services does Baxter offer?

The Baxter Electric site looks good. Is the idea to offer help building similar service-orientated sites?

Adding an RSS feed from my own site into an activity page on my own site

Design and Skin Customization

QUOTE: eg, I created a template at:
my-site.com/junk (/skins/(MY SKIN)/junk.tpl) and put this code in it...END QUOTE

When I go to my site, /skins/jrNingja, I get a forbidden access sign. When I go to the skin in ACP and look at the page of Skin templates, there is no option to create a new template. It seems that we can only modify existing templates.

How did you make a new template at that particular URL?

Thanks

Design and Skin Customization

@michael That worked! Followed the instruction for adding the feed code to my widget. Two hiccups:

1. The code (sharp bracket pair) option in the widget Editor might work only as a code viewing window. Entering the code {jrFeed_list name="researchcooperative"} there did not work.

When I used the Code menu tab in Widget, and entered the {jrFeed_list name="researchcooperative"} there, it did work. Yay!

2. You used the template name researchcooperative... is this because template names must be continuous script (with underscores for spacing)?

Thanks

@derrickhand300

I tried that in a widget on one of my pages, using the code window. Saved, and nothing happened on the front end (blank). Then looked for a guide to html and inserting scripts into text boxes, and tried putting html around the script but that did not work also. Maybe I had the wrong guide.

How exactly should this be added to a widget?

Thanks

Is it possible to automatically display all profiles in a gallery?

Using Jamroom

michael:
Form Designer gets stuff into the datastore.

Templates get stuff out of the datastore.

Just adding a new field to a form is only half the job.

Thanks for all that. I just have to get this fixed in my head. And then see if I can fix the site. I will call this thread solved for the moment.

Is it possible to automatically display all profiles in a gallery?

Using Jamroom

Are there any examples of Jamroom sites where the profile forms ARE displayed for public view, and are also used as the base for profile searching?

Also, I am still not clear whether the sign-up form can be turned into a profile form that becomes the public profile.

If not, then we need to keep the sign-up form simple, and let new members fill out the full form later. This has the disadvantage of not letting us see who the person is until we have already approved them so that they can complete the full form.

But I jump ahead. At this stage, I just need to see how a profile form can be made public, whether or not it is the sign-up form or something filled in later.

Is it possible to automatically display all profiles in a gallery?

Using Jamroom

In my case, I have used the form design tool to create fields for location, interests etc. in a "profile form" and can save the changes and see the form when logged in as admin or as profile owner, but the form is not publicly visible to other logged in users or to general visitors to the site.... despite being saved as a "globally visible" form.

The form "vanishes" when it is saved because the view switches to the profile public page, where the form is not shown (against my expectation).

The data are all there because when I go back to the settings tool and look at the profile, the data are all present and correct.

I do not get any error message.

Adding an RSS feed from my own site into an activity page on my own site

Design and Skin Customization

@derrickhand300 Thanks very much. Here is the test RSS feed from my own network:

http://researchcooperative.org/activity/log/list?fmt=rss

I visited rssinclude.com - not impossibly expensive. A quick test would be good. Thanks.

Is it possible to automatically display all profiles in a gallery?

Using Jamroom

OK, here's a specific question.

I have a testuser, regular member, who can log in and use the gear icon (settings) to fill out a profile form I created using form design tool.

http://publishsciencenet.jamroomhosting.com/profile/settings/profile_id=5/id=5

The fields to fill in are location, work interests, contact details, and so on. Near the bottom there is a "Profile Privacy" field, and that is set to Global - visible to everyone.

He changes some details, leaving the setting as visible, saves the page, and... vroom! It vanishes.

Now we are back on the original public page, and nothing shows there.

http://publishsciencenet.jamroomhosting.com/testuser-one

Is this how it is meant to work?
