How exactly does "Enable Full Text Search" work?

Using Jamroom

Thanks Strumelia and Brian,

I have been wondering where controls for search might be.

When I searched for "search module" in the jamroom marketplace, nothing came up until I tried the Installed tab. Then I could learn that it is already installed by default as part of jamroom core.

However, in ACP, no search module appears as an obvious, distinct module. What we see when we look at the "Core" are:

1. Marketplace,
2. Support Center,
3. System Core,
4. System Tips.

To find the search module components I did a search on "search" in the search box at top of the ACP module menu, and was rewarded with a list of four modules each dealing with a different aspect of the search system:

1. Additional Search Fields
2. Enable Full Text Search
3. Index Result Count
4. Module Result Count

I could not find these with a jamroom.net site-wide global search, nor with the menu tab navigation. But Strumelia's question does come up in the site-wide search, so maybe this explanation of where to find the Search module(s) and their functions will also be visible to others, from now on.

Thanks.

ps After dabbling further with searches on search in documentation, I found this great video on how to add a search box in a widget (i.e. on any page we want): http://www.jamroom.net/site-builder/documentation/howto/2391/how-to-add-a-search-box-in-a-widget

And there it is revealed that to find the documentation for search, we should use the term "jrsearch", not just "search".

Here is the documentation:

http://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/modules/950/search

Is adding the letters jr a magic key for finding key information abut jr, inside jr itself?

Interpreting the 'Create' and 'Update' profile forms in Form Designer tool

Design and Skin Customization

Thanks.. that's all good for now. I just need to understand how to get data (or all the data) in profile forms to display. Or perhaps it is displayed but is buried in a sub-tab somewhere and has to be hunted down? In any case, I've asked Douglas to help me with this when he has time.

What is the Meta Tag Browser? Glossary item request

Using Jamroom

Thanks for those links. I know meta-tags are used by external search engines; do they have any value or function within the Jamroom system, for operation of a JR site?

Using Jamroom

Sorry. I have not seen the issue either.

I was just looking through the language section of the Group Support module (YOUR-SITE/group/admin/language) and wondered if there is a better way of expressing the error message.

Maybe it is an issue that can wait until we face the problem.

Thanks

Profile forms - preview of the public view

Suggestions

In principle, profile forms can be displayed in public, but Admin (and profile owners) must take various steps to make this happen.

When designing forms, and filling them out, it would be useful to be able to see a preview (with a single click) of how each form will look in public view -- if the intention is to make all profiles in a quota public, or if a user wants to make an individual profile visible to others.

Interpreting the 'Create' and 'Update' profile forms in Form Designer tool

Design and Skin Customization

On the Form Design page for profiles (YOUR_SITE/profile/form_designer), when I first saw the option to switch between profile/create and profile/update, I thought this referred to Admin creating a profile form, and then updating the design of that form later.

Now I think that the terms 'create' and 'update' refer to their function for users -- from the user point of view.

When users first create a profile, they will see the 'create' form. Later, when they want to update information they will see the 'update' form. If information entered into in the profile creating form should never be changed, then Admin can decide to make that information inaccessible in the Update form.

If this interpretation is correct, when new members are signing up, they can be asked to fill in a minimum number of fields. This way we can avoid annoying them with too many fields and questions.

Later, if they are asked to update their information, they may see a more detailed or complete set of fields.

In general terms, what is the process for getting new members to update their profile details, or giving them the opportunity at least?

Is an opportunity to update profile details presented to the user automatically each time they login? Or do they have to look for the way to do this deep in their account settings?

Can administrators send users automatically to their account profile update page after login?

In Group discussions, users may encounter this error message.

Under what circumstances will such an error message arise, what does it mean, and how will the user 'pass in a valid discussion id'?

Just wondering. This is not an urgent matter for me.

Thanks

What is the Meta Tag Browser? Glossary item request

Using Jamroom

A basic introduction to the Meta Tag Browser, with examples of how and why it is used, would be useful in the Glossary and Documentation areas.

See Glossary here: https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/getting-started/2568/glossary

entering webhook URL for foxycart dashboard

Using Jamroom

Quote from set up advice at Jamroom: Datafeed URL - This should be the URL to the "webhook" FoxyCare module view on your Jamroom site - i.e. "https://www.jamroom.net/foxycart/webhook"

I put my site URL in front of /foxycart/webhook and obtained only error messages when attempting to go that URL. Can I nevertheless use the URL in Foxycart dashboard> settings> advanced ?

Alternatively, how can we find the "webhook" FoxyCart module view, in order to find the actual URL?

Thanks

Adding an RSS feed from my own site into an activity page on my own site

Design and Skin Customization

Thanks @douglas,

That seems a long way around to do what @michael was suggesting. The JR ACP offers easy access to tools for working on existing templates inside JR... why is there nothing obvious built in for creating new templates?

To create a template at my-site.com/junk (/skins/(MY SKIN)/junk.tpl) (for example) do we need to go outside the server and then somehow ftp into the server?

I am just asking on behalf of others who may follow this thread... personally I will not have time for this kind of effort.

Best regards.
