Disappearing Edit and Trash button glitch

Using Jamroom

Just to confirm, the message just sent above has edit and trash buttons that appear when I scroll into the published message screen.

They only appear when I do scroll into the screen, and tonight they stay there and let me click. No problem. But that's the action that does go awry sometimes.

Are those icons meant to vanish when our cursor is not on the message window?

Disappearing Edit and Trash button glitch

Using Jamroom

Just now I tried to reproduce the issue by creating a new Faq, jumping to other windows, then back again. No go. I use Firefox.

The edit and trash buttons were nice and stable, but I have a feeling that my internet connection is speedy tonight (Thursday).

Perhaps tonight there are not too many people watching movies through the shared cable from our apartment block. I'll just go door-to-door and make a head count. I'm sure everyone is awake after the repeating concert of solo revving motorbike outside. He's doing loops around the rice fields.

Hmmm...

Disappearing Edit and Trash button glitch

Using Jamroom

When writing a text for my documentation section, the initial writing and publishing steps work fine, but when I need to edit the text, edit and trash buttons disappear when my mouse arrow get's close.

I similar glitch was reported previously... but no final answer was given then.

Refreshing the page does work in my case too, but do we have to live with this glitch and solution to it?

Other editing windows behave in a more stable manner.

When I posted the update button mouseover is reversed - when you roll over the item to edit it the edit, new and delete icons disappear. It works fine once the page has been refreshed.

Questions about the Profile FAQ module (and a comment regarding 'forms')

Using Jamroom

I doubt I will get to developing alternative FAQ forms myself, but need to understand how this might be achieved.

In the present case, I need a FAQ for the network, and the default FAQ system is fine for that. It appears on the network profile page which I am using as an operational center for the network, in its own quota.

Where I need an independent FAQ form is for "Special Members" who I hope will eventually be able to set up Marketplace tools, and sell their services. As a business shopfront, the profile of a special member will need a FAQ that has categories that make it easy for the seller to explain to prospective customers how to carry out transactions.

I have not completely thought this through, but just see it as a likely case where an independent FAQ form would be useful (along with an independent profile form, as the profiles of Special Members will need different fields than those of regular or normal members).

Thanks

Questions about the Profile FAQ module (and a comment regarding 'forms')

Using Jamroom

Thanks for that! I agree that the categorization is useful.

Is it possible to install a JR module (e.g. the FAQ module) more than once, by relabelling the module?

That way, it might be possible to set up the FAQ form in one way for one quota, and in another way for another quota.

And then, if I set up a quota for a single profile, with the module assigned to that quota and profile, I can have a profile-specific FAQ form that does not affect the FAQ form in other quotas and their profiles.

Just a thought.

It might be a rather heavy-handed way of solving the problem, in terms of use of server space.

How can I "like" an item in JR.net?

Using Jamroom

Ahhh! Ok. Which reminds me of another thought.

Instead of second-guessing what potential users might regard as well-designed JR sites, would it be possible to invite ALL JR site creators (at any time) to voluntarily register their sites in a searchable directory managed by JR as a global showcase?

(Let's breathe in now for International Yoga Day).

There could be some kind of time-lag on this to avoid registering sites that exist for 10 minutes and then disappear.

Top page views of sites that existed for say, 4 years and then disappeared might still offer some value as examples for future site creators.

I work in a museum as a curator (one of my roles) so I see value in learning from past failures and successes. If JR could curate a global directory of past and current JR sites, the value of the effort would increase over time.

Just a thought. I'll mark this thread as solved.

Thanks.

Questions about the Profile FAQ module (and a comment regarding 'forms')

Using Jamroom

This week I tried entering a FAQ item without success.

The module is active and has been allocated to the Quota used by the profile.

After clicking on the plus sign, I get a FAQ form and can "create new entry".

I made a new entry, but seeing no category options in the category dropdown list I did not choose any category. Consequently the FAQ was not published, though it remained in the system ready for further modification.

While playing around with this, I found that the "new value" box in fact means "add new category". There is no question box on the form to get an explanation of this.

After adding a category title, and saving the changes, my first FAQ question was at last published. From this it appears that FAQ questions must be organised into categories in order to be published. That's OK, but it would be nice if this could be clearly stated.

Can the FAQ form language be changed by JR to make the form more self-explanatory?

Can the Profile FAQ module be given documentation to explain any other tricks to using it? (I did a search in documentation, and found nothing on this module).

As an all areas where forms are provided, it would be nice if we could design the FAQ form for a specific profile or quota, without this changing the default form seen in other profiles or quotas.

When changing the FAQ form itself, by adding a new field for example, it would be enormously convenient for administrators to be given a drop-down option list such as:

1. Apply this FAQ form as default for all Profile FAQ forms
2. Apply this FAQ form as default for profiles in the present Quota
3. Apply this FAQ form only to the present profile

I imagine that options 2 or 3 would be most useful for most networks, if they were available. Unfortunately, it seems we currently have no options, and only option 1 exists (as far as I can see).

Presumably options 2 and 3 can be achieved through labour-intensive backend coding, case-by-case, but I'm hoping for an easy-to-use solution for non-coding administrators.

How can I "like" an item in JR.net?

Using Jamroom

Thanks, understood.

...but then, why does the "Items You Like" subtab appear under my user name when I am logged in to JR?

What is a "profile index page"?

Using Jamroom

Result of further investigation and testing:

After installing the Profile Tweaks module, and activating it, we can then choose which quotas to add the module to in our Admin Control Panel (ACP).

Profiles associated with a given quota where the module is active will have a new "customization" tab in the Profile settings page. Depending on how you have set up the module, the possible customizations include choosing which part of the Profile is displayed as the top page of that profile.

The default page is the 'index page', where Latest activity of the profile is shown. I am still not sure why it is called 'profile index page' rather than, say, the 'profile top page' or 'profile home page'. Perhaps these are all equivalent descriptions.

Alternatives to the default are other pages linked to the profile (i.e. the pages that are usually accessed through the horizontal menu at the top of the profile home page.

What is a "profile index page"?

Using Jamroom

This term has appeared in relation to the Profile Tweaks module.

Can a quick explanation be given in the Glossary, or in a "How to" entry that explains what kinds of tweaks can be achieved with the module?

Thanks
