Oops...batch edit mistake. D'oh!!!

Using Jamroom

On my Ning site, which is still operating, I have deleted comment walls for most groups because people tend to use comments to attempt communicating with members of the group, not realising that there is no notification of comments to group members through email.

In a Ning group, when anyone posts a message in the group forum, all members of the group are notified about the new message, through email. They don't have to actively log in to monitor the group activity. Unless they turn off that particular messaging option in their privacy settings.

Consistency in access and download permissions across media?

Suggestions

Thanks..

The attached pdf shows in summary the configuration options available in JR modules for the different common media of audio, 'file' (i.e. usually documents), and image (static).

It is nice to be able to watermark images, but this would also be useful for audio and document files. Perhaps JR could invent a JR-specific water-sound watermark for sound files (?!).

The settings and controls are not equivalent for each media type, but could be, and seem best developed for sound.

For JR to be more useful for management and publishing of documents, it would be useful to be able to organise documents into volumes (equivalent to albums) and to control access and downloading - for preview and distribution purposes.

I understand that audiovisual is different because the JR system is designed to integrate with Vimeo and Youtube (though maybe JR has developed it's own video channel display module, very recently).

Do tags added to profile pages appear in the tag cloud? On my site they don't

Using Jamroom

In my quest to make profile information visible, I have been adding tags on profile pages.

But now I notice that in the Tag Cloud index page, there is no menu for Profile tags.

JR allows liberal use of tags, which is good, but is there any reason to not include profile tags in the tag cloud and tag menu?

Or are they in the whole-site tag cloud but not given their own menu tab?

Or is there a setting I need to change somewhere to allow profile tags to be included in the tag cloud?

Thanks

Editing a page layout with Sitebuilder

Using Jamroom

In the old SB, that's what I did.

For example, I created a page called "All groups" and an URL was automatically generated by the menu builder, and that URL became the link in the top menu.

Now that page has disappeared, when viewed while logged in with my admin. profile (with which the page was originally created).

When I log out, I can click on the "all groups" menu tab (link) and see the page.

So it seems that there is nothing wrong with the page. The problem might be with my admin profile, though I can't see any obvious reason for this, when I review the profile and quota settings.

When I log in with a regular member account (Testuser One) I can see the all groups page. So the problem is generated specifically when I log in as admin.

Editing a page layout with Sitebuilder

Using Jamroom

I didn't look at the links, pages or the URLs while installing the new SB. The pages just disappeared from view.

When I click on the main menu tabs for such pages, e.g. All Groups, it tries to go the old URL: /all-groups, and the new SB puts up a sign saying "This page does not exist".

I didn't delete the page, did not change the URL or anything.

@paul Thanks

When we convert to the new SB, is expected that existing page pages disappear?

My profile pages are OK, but pages set up with links from the main menu tab have disappeared.

This is being discussed on a ticket, so I may get a reply there soon, but it's good to discuss the matter here too.

In "User account" module, what does the "max profiles" number mean?

Using Jamroom

The help text is not unclear, but is incomplete...

For 'Max Profiles"

Help text: "How many profiles can a Power User in this quota create? "

My understanding now is that if the user can make 2 profiles but is given access to 4 quotas, only 2 of the 4 quotas can be used, not 2 profiles in each quota. Can the original profile and quota be discarded in the process? Or is the original profile and quota associated with a user account fixed?

Followed Paul and now running the integrity check. Look forward to seeing how it works.

Thanks.

Am now in a tangle with profile form designer. It still defeats my understanding. But need sleep and another day for another post.

In the "User Account" module, what happens if "allow signups" is not checked?

Using Jamroom

I wonder if a member application form is something that would be useful as a module that links the user account settings seamlessly to the Signup button?

Then site owners could then more easily guide new visitors to their signup options.

e.g. visitor presses the usual signup button, and is then immediately informed:

1. Your membership is free, and no approval required

2. Your membership is free, but requires approval. Please apply...

3. This service requires a paid subscription. Please see conditions and apply here...
