Add notification triggers?

Using Jamroom

I would like to support/sponsor anything that encourages members of a network to talk to each other.

Looking at the notification control options as Admin., the JR system is great in the detail of control that users can employ - if they are interested enough to think through all the options.

I wonder if there is a need for package controls that simplify the task of deciding what notifications to accept and how? That is, in addition to letting members make decisions about every possible kind of notification, or accepting no notifications, we can offer "notification packages":

e.g. One or more of the following:

1) All accepted notifications bundled into a daily or weekly message.
2) All group notifications accepted.
3) All forum notifications accepted
4) All comments on your posts notified, wherever they may be, accepted.
5) All notifications accepted.

Sorry, this also fits in Suggestions, but follows the thread here.

Thanks for the clarification. Any plan for them to be released eventually? They do sound useful, if they can be used to move individual topic threads between forums and group forums.

Saw broken image on my Home page. Weird stuff happened after replacement

Using Jamroom

@michael ?

After setting my "Editor Embedded Media" and module and "Editor Image Upload" modules to active across all quotas, I reset caches and did an integrity check (no problems) then returned the Home page to start looking at how to use it.

See http://researchcooperative.org/

Home page, which was fine a few moments ago, now had broken image logos in each of two widgets (there were only two photos on the page). So I went into Site builder and deleted the broken image and uploaded a new image.

In the Widget editor, all looked good (see copy 2 attachment with Save button showing).

After saving, weird stuff happened. See -after copy attachment with photo now pushing down into the widget headers below.

This happened repeatedly, on reruns, which is why I was able make the screenshot sequence.

How many different wrong things did I do to generate this mess?!

In the first instance, when seeing a broken image file, should I assume a bad internet connection, and refresh the browser page, or entirely restart my browser?

Or put real flowers in front of a shrine and pray?! :-) (Possibly a good idea in any situation, good or bad).

Yes, we purchased/installed from the Marketplace both the JRdiscussion and the Transfer Tool.

These do not appear in my Marketplace, and when I looked inside Jamroom.net for the Discussion module, I found the icon, but the link is bad:

"OOPS... PAGE NOT FOUND

Sorry - we couldn't find the page you requested."

In any case, I am doing well currently with the Change Item Owner module.

Alert tools for Administrators who need help from technical assistants

Suggestions

Thanks everyone. I will study this further as time permits, and call this thread "investigating" for now.

I have only seen and used one kind of comparison tool, for comparing the default and modified .tpl files within a single skin.

I am very nervous about touching anything at this level, in part because of my inability to keep track of updates and their implications for changes I might have made (and which I will certainly not remember in my head) (and I don't have time to troll through code looking for changes and issues).

Hence my interest in some kind of monitoring tool that can send out technical alerts tailored to my own site, and that can be forwarded to my dreamed-of personal technical assistant :-)

Seeking easiest way to move a single profile to another quota

Installation and Configuration

I found the Key to the Universe!

It's called the "Change Item Owner" module

/documentation/modules/2959/change-item-owner

Now we can travel from one planet to another at the touch of a button. I will call this solved for now.

Is JRdiscussion the formal name? Do you mean the Group Discussion module here?

Also, when you mention paying for a "transfer tool", I suppose this means the "Change Item Owner" module, which puts a transfer tool inside the Group Discussion module.

In my set up, I cannot find any jrDiscussion module, nor any module with Transfer in its name. But in the process of looking, I found the "Change Item Owner" module, which appears to be a wonderful tool for moving almost anything anywhere.

The module itself does not display a tool panel, but instead puts a tool panel inside most other modules so that items (Profiles, Groups etc.) can moved around, from one quota to another.

See /the-jamroom-network/documentation/modules/2959/change-item-owner

Thanks

Alert tools for Administrators who need help from technical assistants

Suggestions

Thanks.

So far the only Compare tool I have seen is built into the templates workspace inside a module or skin (I will call it Internal-Compare).

Is there another Compare tool for comparing a native JR module or skin with a cloned module or skin (i.e. Cross-Compare)?

In my case, I am working with the purchased native JR modules, none of them cloned, and a cloned skin, so I might need a Cross-Compare tool for comparing my cloned skin with the updated native JR skin.

Alert tools for Administrators who need help from technical assistants

Suggestions

I am cross-posting my own comment from the Documentation section on managing Skins. The suggestion for an alert tool is made at the end of this long comment.

researchcooperative:

In the case of updates to an original JR Skin for which a clone has been created, how to we get to see JR updates in the cloned Skin?

Are there two kinds of compare tool?

1. For comparing original JR code and new custom code inside a cloned skin (or module)
2. For comparing new code in a JR skin or module with old (original) code in the clone, and the new custom code inside the clone.

Or more graphically (A-F = labels, not a sequence)
A) jrThing-old -> B) jrThing-new (updates made by JR)
C) jrThing-old -> D) jrThing-customnew (customizations by site owner, without using clone)
E) jrThing-old-Clone -> F) jrThing-old-Clone-customnew (customizations by site owner using clone)

Notes:
1. Comparing A) with B) is not possible within the updated Skin or module, but JR provides a separate chronological log of historical changes to everything JR has worked on.
2. Comparing C) with D) is easy to do (with the internal tools)
3. Comparing E) with F) is easy to do (with the internal tools)
4. The common question may be how to easily compare B) with D) or F), in order to make decisions?

Is it possible to design an automatic alert system for non-coding administrators so we do not have to eyeball code endlessly? (Then ideally we can ask a technical assistant to monitor the alerts and deal with anything that needs dealing with).

My understanding is that D) gets wiped out and becomes B) if the updates made by JR are accepted.

How can I delete comments on a page?

Using Jamroom

[quote="michael"]
The issue is you have that page set to display on the main site the delete buttons only show on the profile pages. I'll open a tracker to see if its possible to add in this location.

Thanks Michael, Please do open the issue tracker for this. Meanwhile I'll call this "In Progress".
