Password "request will expire". What is the password expiration period?

Using Jamroom

My antique Casio hand calculator (with magic tape bandaid) converts that to 1 day. Sounds reasonable.

Password "request will expire". What is the password expiration period?

Using Jamroom

Recently I received a copy of the message that users receive when they make a new password request. This reveals something that is unexplained, and is significant for users and site admin:

Quote
We've received a password reset request for this email address.
If you requested your password to be reset, please click on the
following link, or cut and paste it into your browser window:

[example link]

This will allow you to set a new password for your account.
If you did not request this password reset request, you can
ignore this email and the request will expire.

*****

Hola! "... the request will expire" (!!??)

Like when? In 10 minutes? One week? One year?

People cannot always respond IMMEDIATELY to an email.

If the User (aka tablet addict) decides to check this out an hour later, or next day, will they see the error message shown in the attached tablet image?

Invitations module does not have documentation

Using Jamroom

Thanks.

So it is just to say, "come and look".

i.e. There is no redirection to a specific action like joining a group, following, etc.

The function is useful and simple, but does need to be explained!

"Invitations" in Ning directed people to the main Sign up page.

Still struggling with Search option in the JamRoom Forum

Suggestions

I know they can't access the dashboard and keys, but I am wondering if similar syntax (not for keys) can be used in search fields everywhere in a JR site.

So far I have not found any general instructions on syntax for search terms that are put in search fields singly or together with other terms.

Invitations module does not have documentation

Using Jamroom

I have Invitations module installed, and can find the form for sending invitations under my profile name in a tab called "Your invitations".

I cannot find any Documentation about this module. The module button for this leads to a page not found message.

It is not clear that inviting someone to "Your profile" means make a "Friend" request. I assume this is the case. If so, then the following message might be a good template:

***Invitation to my Profile****
Hi...

Please "follow" me, then we can correspond using private notes from inside [Site name] (see "private notes" under your own name in the site menu). To send each other notes, we should use the @(your username) and @(my username) tags to identify the recipient.

Thanks

Sending Passwords to selected individual users (former Ning members)

Ning To Jamroom

Thanks.

Regarding (1), I will go with sending an advance warning by email to explain what I am doing, when sending a password on another user's behalf.

Regarding (2), I found the jrNingImport template and no difficulty editing it. My version is below, for what it is worth.

By the way, what text will this string generate: [{$system_name} Administrator]?
Does "system_name" refer to Jamroom? That would be odd.

***Modified auto message for sending out passwords with jrNingImport****

Hello {$user_name}. Greetings from [a real place].

"{$ning_name}" has migrated to a new host and system (CMS), so we have to send you a new password for returning to your account (see below).

When you login with the new password, you'll be able to change it back to to your old password, or something else new and memorable, if you want.

Please visit the new homepage at {$jamroom_url} or go straight to the login page at {$jamroom_url}/user/login

Our new system will be easier to use when it becomes familiar. There are many new features for using media, managing more than one profile per account, sharing, and social networking. You will notice the new look and feel of the site immediately. This may take some time to get used to. Please look around and check that your previous messages, photos, blogs, groups etc. are still there (hopefully yes). Please feel free to revise or delete old messages or post new messages in the forums for Services and Groups.

Your login username is: {$user_name}

Your new password is: {$user_initial_pw}

Please contact us at {$admin_email} if you have any issues or questions. When you login for the first time, please note an important change: Account information for Admin is now separate from your public profile data. Your old profile data has been kept, but is now in the private account. To create a new public profile, please use the form shown under the profile tab on your profile settings page (use the gearwheel tab on the public profile page to find this).

Thank you.

{$admin_name} [{$system_name} Administrator]

Still struggling with Search option in the JamRoom Forum

Visitors to our site will not know the keys used in our system, but can they use the search syntax in any search field they come across? i.e. these four options:

(1) value - Search for exact value match.
(2) %value - Search for items that end in value.
(3) value% - Search for items that begin with value.
(4) %value% - Search for items that contain value.

And can they search for more than one value at the same time? What is the syntax for multiple keyword searching?

Sending Passwords to selected individual users (former Ning members)

Ning To Jamroom

OK. That has basically worked, but it looks like I have to change the automatic message for when I enter the email address, as the current result looks like spam to at least one user.

I suppose I can do this in the backend somehow, but then I will have to go back and put it back to normal for when members use the form themselves.

Q1. Would it be possible to have two versions of this in the system, one for the Admin to enter and address and send a password to members, and one for members to use?

Q2. Is the same message below sent when the Nng module sends out a mass mailing to all membersof a former Nng network?

"Dear Peter,

Seems a spam email from your account!

Best regards, [a site member who knows me well]

How to review Kickbox email test scores?

Using Jamroom

Thanks,

I found the activity logs here:

ACP->System Tools->Activity logs

Did a search for "Kickbox", and found that 3 in 100 addresses had been rated undeliverable.

The log message looked like this:

[Research Cooperative] XYZ@XYZ.net failed kickbox validation - unsubscribed user

So that looks good.

When I search for this person in the "user account browser" I can still find the account details, and when I search the public member list, the profile is still shown.

So the Kickbox/JR system is presumably shutting down access to the account, but leaving it to Admin to make the final descision to "Delete" in the user account browser.

This also is good, as we might find someone who we want to keep in the network, but who did not update their account while their former email address was still valid. This might be a common way to lose members.

Q1. What is the recommended way to renew the account of a now unsubscribed but wanted member?

Q2. Also, while the record of unsubscription is clear in the activity log, will it remain there forever?

Q3. Is it possible for JR to automatically mark a member as unsubscribed in the user account browser?

That would be extremely useful.

Q4. Is it possible to have the unsubscribed members automatically shunted by Kickbox/JR into a quota designed specifically for them?

Q5. How should we configure the quota to be able to receive such profiles?

Still struggling with Search option in the JamRoom Forum

Suggestions

These instructions regarding search terms appear in my Dashboard search box. Do they apply to all search boxes in the JR system, and equally importantly, what do they mean? Every line in this note is cryptic to me. First of all, what is an "item" in this context, and what is an "item key"?

Item Search Options:
value - Search for exact value match.
%value - Search for items that end in value.
value% - Search for items that begin with value.
%value% - Search for items that contain value.

Item Key Search Options:
key:value - Search for specific key with exact value match.
key:%value - Search for specific key that begins with value.
key:value% - Search for specific key that ends with value.
key:%value% - Search for specific key that contains value.
