Is it possible to clone a site builder page and all its content?

Suggestions

Hmm, that is one step forward.

When I select and export a particular page, a green highlighted message reports that the export was successful, but where has it gone? Exported to where?

I was not asked to select a destination before or after pressing the Export button. So off it goes, into the ether!

Is it possible to clone a site builder page and all its content?

Suggestions

My primary interest here is in being able to copy, duplicate, or otherwise 'clone' the entire SB page so a new version can be made while leaving the old version up, or so that it can be used as a starting point for a new and different page.

Douglas suggested using the Sb export tool (also in the Tools area of SB module) to export a single page, but when I go to:

/sbcore/export

I see a list of .json files identified by long code numbers and have no idea of what I am looking at. And if I export these, they will be outside my site and then require importing, etc etc....

For most admin users, a one-click clone/duplicate button would be convenient, alongside the delete button in the Tools browser, if it is technically possible.

Is it possible to clone a site builder page and all its content?

Suggestions

In the Site Builder module, we can use Tools page browser to view and delete existing pages, but not to clone them.

We can only clone specific widgets inside a page, and I don't think these can be cloned and dropped into a new page.

It might be useful to be able to clone an entire page, and then work on a new version while the old version remains live.

Allow sale of group membership by subscription?

Suggestions

I have been trying to think of an effective way to invite voluntary payments that can generate income to cover the cost of my network development.

Would it be possible for me to create a private "Subscriber's Group" that existing members can only join by paying a subscription? Whatever is then offered in the group would then be exclusive for the paying members.

The group could be public or private in terms of visibility to non-members, but to be a member of the group would require a payment. It is possible that some members would like to be seen to be paying supporters of the network, while others might prefer to be invisible supporters. I would like to provide both options.

At the moment, it seems that the focus of the subscription system is on files displayed for sale on the profiles of sellers.

Currently, sellers can sell files, but they can't easily sell membership of a group created by the seller.

Or have I missed something obvious?

What I like about this idea, is that all members can join the network as a whole for free, and then in their own time consider whether or not to pay a voluntary subscription in return for a "privilege" (membership of an exclusive group).

How to make being a member of such a group actually interesting is a separate and more difficult issue!

***

An extension of this idea might be exclusive "selling and buying clubs" - groups that require payment to join, but where individual members can then sell their stuff to other members of the club, and only to those other members.

This might facilitate the formation of wholesale- and retail-level groups (shops/markets).

For example, a retailer looking for new inventory might be willing to pay to join the relevant wholesale clubs to buy cheaper goods, and then retail them through a group that is free to join.

The retail shop is really just a curated collection that may present goods more attractively, or in more useful combinations, than the creator of each item can. For some kinds of item, buyers might like to be part of a club shop where they can talk to other shoppers while buying or just window-shopping.

Where is CSS code located in a JR site? And related questions

Design and Skin Customization

Looked at the web_dev.jpg and found your guide to the widget id there!

Thanks.

Design and Skin Customization

That's good too, thanks.

I checked the Documentation for Site Builder>Widgets and widget IDs are not mentioned there so are presumably not needed for day-to-day use of Site Builder.

Did a search on all JR documentation, and "widget id" is not mentioned anywhere. I guess it is just not very critical for anyone but a developer.

Where is CSS code located in a JR site? And related questions

Design and Skin Customization

Thanks very much - that is all good to know.

Just one more question: where can we find or see the ID of a particular widget of interest?

Can we see it when we look at a widget through Sitebuilder, or is there some kind of datastore list of all widgets and their ids? Or both?

Where is CSS code located in a JR site? And related questions

Design and Skin Customization

I see many threads discussing CSS code, but almost everyone seems to already know where it is and how to use it.

On one thread, it appears that something called skin_init has a collection of CSS codes that the skin somehow refers to.

Does this mean there is a central location for CSS code as well as peripheral location (in the skin) where CSS code is also located?

I have no overall image of where it all fits in. I am not planning to work with CSS myself, but it would be good for me to understand its role and position in a JR site more clearly.

In Widgets, I can see where html code fits in. But when we wish to add a background color to the full widget area, it seems we have to use CSS code, not html, but this CSS code is not in the widget. We have to find a Widget ID, and then put that into some CSS code and put the CSS code somewhere else. Where is the widget ID and where is the CSS code that refers to it?

In brief, what are the relationships - in the most general terms - between these different things:

1. skin .tpl files
2. skin_init
3. widgets
4. widget ids
5. css code
6. html code

How to install a page counter for republished text?

Using Jamroom

Thanks for adding the link... the request for adding a page counter is stated very definitely:

"You must use our page view counter when republishing online..."

And the CC license states:

"No additional restrictions — You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits".

Perhaps the request to add a page counter does not stop us from using the material according to the rules of "with attribution, no derivatives", so is not a restriction of concern as far as the CC license is concerned.
