How to use the notifications dropdown menu - more clarity is needed

Using Jamroom

Perhaps the current settings can be navigated in the the following manner.

Current notification settings (if not all disabled) [= section title under the "disable all notifications" setting)

1. Currently set at "do not notify" -> dropdown menu
2. Currently set at "send email" -> dropdown menu
3. Currently set at "send private note" -> dropdown menu

Note if "Disable all notifications" has been selected and saved, then the menus for 2 and 3 will be empty (or showing "none"), and the full menu will be displayed at 1.

If "Disable all notifications" is deselected, then changing a setting in the dropdown menu at 1 will shift the item into the menu for 2 or 3 depending on what is selected.

This way we can easily review the current settings and change them. Assuming that what I am suggesting is technically possible.

How to use the notifications dropdown menu - more clarity is needed

Using Jamroom

I have attached a screenshot of the notifications page, from my own Admin Account Settings page.

It looks like I can either choose to disable all notifications (first option offered at top) or notifications for just one of the many options offered in the dropdown list.

It is not obvious how to configure notifications for more than one purpose. If we choose one option from the drop down list, what happens to the other options?

There is no quick way to review the current notification settings for my account. I certainly cannot remember all my past decisions, but it is slow work to look at each item in the dropdown menu, to see if it remains a setting that I want (assuming that I can have more than one notification item active).

It would be good, if possible, to have two lists showing:

"Current notification settings - disabled"

and

"Current notification settings - enabled"

This would clarify the current situation, and how to navigate the options, without overloading the page with choices.

Is it possible to control who can see comments?

Using Jamroom

Thanks to all of the above.

All I would like to add here is that maybe the Comments module would become more generally useful with some comment display options set up for the Quota configuration panel.

Is it possible to control who can see comments?

Using Jamroom

My impression regarding the Comments module is that there are no settings to control who can see comments posted to profiles (in quotas for which comments are enabled).

i.e. any visitor and member will be able to see all comments everywhere (unless they are inside a private group presumably).

Or am I missing something? Is it possible to make comments visible only to logged in members of the site?

I have not found anything about this in Documentation for the Comments module.

Search box for members

Using Jamroom

@perrie

I don't know how it was done, as I paid a JR team member to design this for me... but now all the search options for member profiles are shown in one place at the top of my member index page. Visitors can look at the list in alphabetical, newest, and most popular arrangement, or search all profile fields or specific profile fields. I added the latter so that visitors can realise what is possible to search for (location, work interests).

Why are all signups and logins showing in Timeline for the site?

Using Jamroom

After switching back to default (for add to timeline option) I reset caches, but the recent signups and logins are still visible on the site timeline.

Why are all signups and logins showing in Timeline for the site?

Using Jamroom

At mysite/timeline, all signups and logins are showing (when I view this page as Admin).

My Timeline quota settings for the one and only signup quota are:

Allowed on profile (yes)
Item approval (no approval needed)
Can post activity updates (yes)
Add to Timeline Option (no)
Show on item detail pages (yes)

The add to timeline option help note explains

"If this option is checked, an "Add To Timeline" checkbox will appear in create/update forms that will allow the user to decide if they want their action added to their timeline. If this is unchecked, then all actions will be recorded to the Timeline. "

At the signup stage, I don't want anything about the timeline to appear on a form that users see. It seems I either have to give them an option, or allow all actions to be recorded to Timeline. There doesn't seem to be any control for which forms it will appear on, nor to "show no option and show no actions".

I will switch this back to the default (which presumably gives the option on all forms, regardless of whether or not it is needed for a particular form).

Any tips for using Askimet with a Jamroom site?

Using Jamroom

Great - "ham" means something edible (for some), i.e. comments that passed the Askimet test, while "spam" is what we know it to be, despite the fact that it is openly sold Kyoto, the capital of high cuisine.

Thanks

Any tips for using Askimet with a Jamroom site?

Using Jamroom

I have Askimet set up to scan my site, but I am not sure if it is actually removing spam since I probably won't see the spam before it is removed, if it is removed.

My Askimet account has a diagram showing spam detection over time, but I am not sure what exactly it is doing, and wonder if it is being effective. It distinguishes "ham" and "spam" in the statistic report for my site, but I cannot find a definition of these terms at Askimet.

Of course JR does not have to explain Askimet, but if any other JR users are using Askimet, it would be good for me (and others) to know if and how it is working for you.

Thanks

How can we uninstall a module that has been installed on a Jamroom site?

Installation and Configuration

Received the Update notice and installed without any problem. Service Shop looks good.

Thanks.
