Looks like my jr domain Mailgun acct was hacked

Using Jamroom

@strumelia

Thanks for all that.

Reporting in from the Peoples' Republic (here for a holiday of sorts) it seems appropriate to suggest that "RED FLAGS" for hacking intrusions might be a useful part of the JR Documentation, if it does not serve as "support" for hackers just as much as it does for site owners. Can we (whoever "we" may be) win the revolution?!

Forcing users to re-login

Using Jamroom

I think to a large extent users of social networks will be forgiving if they can see that site owners are acting in good faith. We can't force all members to actually login or agree to something by any given date.

All we can do is put the TOS statement up, and tell all users that it is there, and also when there is any significant change to it.

Eventually the people who care will login and see it, and agree or not.

That's my hope at least.

Is it possible to merge two groups?

Using Jamroom

Thanks.

Creating the network has definitely been a fool's errand, with me the chief (but happy) fool.

I will take your advice here and let the sleeping dog lie, if I sense any life in a particular group.

Is it possible to merge two groups?

Using Jamroom

True.

In my case, there has been almost zero activity in the group forums, regardless of how many people joined. I think it will be sufficient to inform the members of the planned merger, and reasons for it, and to tell them how to leave the group before or after the merger.

If there are objections I will be grateful for the feedback!

Is it possible to merge two groups?

Using Jamroom

Yes to the first question.

I have groups of similar purpose formed at different times. It would be nice to have an ACP tool that can be used for this in the long term, as it would facilitate continuous creative formation and reformation of groups.

I have many groups that could be merged with potential benefit.

1. Groups with similar aims.
2. Groups with broader aims that can accommodate groups with more narrow aims.

This is a result of an experimental approach in which many groups were created initially, in order to see which ones attracted members.

I envisage this process continuing in the future, but need an easy to use tool to merge groups. I would be happy to pay for development of the tool if it can be made available to all JR users and thus be open for feedback and improvement by the JR community.

Is it possible to merge two groups?

Using Jamroom

Is it possible to merge two groups...

a) within the same profile?
b) across profiles within the same quota?
c) across quotas?

With the Change Owner tool, we can shift groups between profiles anywhere, so if it is possible to merge groups within the same profile (a), then (b) and (c) should be possible.

Akismet Question - Probation

Using Jamroom

In Spam Blocker, the probation system is described like this:

"To help prevent spam, new Users can be placed in Probation for a period of time during which their text submissions to the site will be analyzed for potential Spam. "

From the above discussions, this might include text (and images with labels etc.) submitted anywhere in the site, including anywhere in a member's own profile page. Is this correct?

If users are directed to their own profile page at login, and there is a probation period, does this mean that the new User will always be frustrated when they try to enter their profile details?

I would like to set a probation for new users posting outside their own profile, but let them fill in profile details easily when they first log in (after the human check at signup, responding to the activation email, and agreeing to a Terms of Service - already three points that require some human input).

How to resend activation email for pending members?

Using Jamroom

I now have my network set up to automatically accept new members after they have clicked on an activation (opt in) email. The activation link sends them to a Terms of Service page with an acceptance checkbox, after which they can choose to continue to their profile page or log out.

If they do not click on the activation link, their account appears in the ACP User Account Browser as "Pending". At this point, I (Admin) can choose "Modify", "Approve" or "Delete".

If I choose "Approve", the profile page will go public before the new member has agreed to the Terms of Service. I don't want this to happen.

If I choose "Modify", I see the new member's Account page with a banner message (see screenshot) and again, can either "Approve" or "Delete" the account. At this point, what I really want to do is "Resend the Activation Email", as many new members remain stuck at the Pending stage, and may not have seen their activation email even if it went to their direct in-box.

A further useful option might be to automatically resend activation emails for up to (say) three times at selected intervals, and then to automatically delete accounts after the last activation email has expired.

Are tags on profile pages expected to be displayed in the comment wall?

Using Jamroom

Thanks. Sorry for not systematically testing this before posting above.

So yes - there were no tags on that item, and when tags are present, any visitor can see them.

In both cases, with or without login, they appear inside the comment wall.

Tags are not really the same thing as comments, unless we regard them as very brief comments.

Do other site owners think of tags as a kind of comment?

The tag heading is inset, so tags do work here as a subcategory of comments.

I will call this solved.
